A tragic incident occurred in Okija community, Anambra state, Nigeria, resulting in an unspecified number of fatalities due to a stampede.

The stampede happened on Saturday morning during a yuletide rice distribution event, has reliably gathered.

Charles Aburime, the chief press secretary to the Anambra governor, confirmed the incident when contacted by a source.

Aburime said the state government is monitoring the situation and would soon release a statement.

A similar incident recently occurred in Ibadan, Oyo state, where at least 35 children lost their lives and six were severely injured in a crowd crush.

The tragic event took place at a Christmas funfair, prompting the police to take action.

The police have arrested eight individuals, including Naomi Silekunola, the organiser of the carnival, in connection with the incident.
