Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.

-Robert Louis Stevenson

Prince Ademola Adeyemo, commonly known as “Sokoti,” passed died on a tragic Monday morning, sending shockwaves throughout the city. Hours after the 8th day Fidau (Muslim prayers for the deceased), which was organized for the 49-year-old actor Murphy Afolabi, which was described by fellow actors as dreadful and heartbreaking, occurred.

On May 22, 2023, following a protracted illness, actor Ademola Adeyemo, better known by his stage name “Sokoti,” said his final goodbyes to the world. The demise of the actor has been described as a nasty shock and a tremendous loss to the profession by many Yoruba actors from Nollywood who have expressed their condolences to the family of the dead.

Death only signifies the end of a person’s journey. The ‘Grim Reaper’ is impossible to defeat. Those who insisted they held death in their pouches eventually perished, leaving their loved ones in sorrow. Regardless of how you go—whether you pass away, turn into stones, disappear, or vanish into thin air—death has already claimed you.

You can only imitate death when your memories are still on Earth’s surface. When you are consciously remembered by your deeds when you were still on earth, you simply pass away yet defeat death and her minions.

Was ‘Sokoti’ mocked by the grim reaper or not? No. Sokoti arrived, observed, and ruled. When compared to a select few people in the industry, neither his renown nor his wealth were very great when he passed away.

Even though he suffered from serious kidney and liver issues before he passed away, he did not succumb easily to the tricks of the “grim reaper.”
When asked why he was terrified of dying, a philosopher said that he did not want to be forgotten. It proves that your existence in this world was not in vain when you become well-known for something.

Ademola Adeyemo was renowned for his acting, which cost him everything. He had a natural sense of humor and was a powerful orator. He relied on spoken words and was successful at it, unlike many others who use humorous looks or outfits to make people laugh.

Actor “Sokoti” was multi-talented, tough, and skilled. He was a natural comic who most likely suffered from poor management or lost out on possibilities that would have increased his material fortune. Has he attained the pinnacle of his career? Yes. If achieving one’s goals and life’s purpose are actually the greatest treasures, then Sokoti’s death was not in vain. He was an unremarkable local actor who worked his way up to success through hard work and resolve.

One of the few actors who made significant sacrifices for the growth of the Nigerian film industry was Ademola Adeyemo, commonly known as “Sokoti.” His older sister gave him the advice to give up acting and concentrate on another career because catastrophes at one point defined his life. Sokoti disregarded the advise, mustered the confidence, and persisted over all opposition.

His marriage suffered as a result of his passionate devotion to his career and long hours spent on movie sets. The actor acknowledged in an interview culled by WITHIN NIGERIA that his wife left him because of the pressure his job had on their family and the issues his absences caused.

Sokoti’s divorce cost him more than just his cherished wife. He also misplaced his lovely twin while acting. Sokoti claims that after spending a few days on a movie set, he returned home and learned that his daughter had passed away.

Prince Ademola Adeyemo’s talents and unwavering devotion to the film industry helped him create many memories, which should comfort us as we grieve his departure.
