Ekiti man arrested for raping 13-year-old girl

  • According to him, the suspect was arrested on Saturday at a hideout at Ijebu-Ijesha in Osun State where he had run to in a bid to escape arrest.

One Oluwabunmi Anifowose has been apprehended for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Ekiti State.

The 34-year-old suspect, who was arrested by Operatives of Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, committed the crime Efon Alaaye in the Efon Local Government Area.

Ekiti Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Olu Adewa (retd.), confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

According to him, the suspect was arrested on Saturday at a hideout at Ijebu-Ijesha in Osun State where he had run to in a bid to escape arrest.

Adewa, according to the statement by the Head of Communications, Ekiti Amotekun Corps, Abiodun Adeleye, stated that information had it that the minor was sent on an errand to buy fufu from another street when she was accosted by the suspects and the consequent rape incident occurred.

The corps commander stated, “The Amotekun officers stated that the suspect was arrested in Ijebu-Ijesha, Osun State, where he was hiding himself in the midst of his colleagues who were suspected to be cult members.

“The suspect has been handed over to the police at Efon Ekiti Division for further investigation and necessary action.”

He added that Amotekun operatives at Ikole Ekiti also on the same day arrested two men—30-year-old Mr. Usman Sheidu and 32-year-old gateman Mr. Olalekan Aluko—for allegedly stealing an iron door at the Oke-ljebu Agege area in the Ikole Local Government Area.

He said, “Upon interrogation by the arresting Amotekun officers, the two suspects confessed to the crime. The duo have since been handed over to the Divisional Police in Ikole Ekiti for further profiling.

Adewa, who said that there was no hiding place for criminals of any kind in the state, called on residents to volunteer information that could help security agents, including Amotekun, to arrest suspects and prevent the commission of crimes.
