Nigerian man jailed for attacking US Judge in court room

  • A 31-year-old Nigerian man, Deobra Redden attacked Judge Mary Kay Holthus in Clark County District Court.

A 31-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Deobra Redden, has been sentenced to at least 26 years in prison after a shocking courtroom assault on a judge in Clark County District Court, United States.

The incident occurred on a Tuesday when Redden, caught on video, was seen leaping over a courtroom bench and attacking Judge Mary Kay Holthus, aged 62.

The attack occured as Judge Holthus was preparing to announce Redden’s sentence in a separate felony battery case.

In September, Redden pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges of attempted murder and other related offenses.

During the trial, Judge Holthus recounted the terrifying moment, stating that she feared for her life when Redden jumped over her 4-foot-high bench and confronted her.

In other news, A Magistrates’ court in Plateau State sentenced a 35-year-old man identified as Fwangmun Danung to one-year imprisonment on Thursday, February 23, for insulting and intimidating his father.

Danung was dragged before the court by the police. The police prosecutor, Insp Frank Alex, had told the court that on December 26, 2022, the accused dragged his father out of the house, called him a useless and irresponsible man and then threatened to burn down the house if his father did not “settle” him with N200,000.

Inspector Alex told the court that the offense was punishable under Sections 377 and 379 of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.

When the charge was read to Danung, he pleaded guilty. The Magistrate, Tapmwa Gotep, sentenced him to six months for insulting his father with an option of N10,000 fine and another six months without fine option for intimidating his father…
