  • A Nigerian lady, “BigAra,” shares a letter from her landlord’s lawyer notifying a rent increase from N750K to N1.4 million.
  • The rent for her one-bedroom apartment in Ajah, Lagos, will rise to N1.2 million, with an additional N200,000 service charge per annum.
  • The new rent takes effect from the next renewal in December 2025.
  • The letter warns tenants who cannot meet the new rent that they must vacate the property.

A Nigerian lady identified as “BigAra,” has expressed her frustration after her landlord drastically increased the rent of her one-bedroom apartment in Ajah, Lagos, from N750,000 to N1.4 million.

The tenant shared the details of the letter she received from the landlord’s lawyer, informing her and other tenants of the significant rent hike.

According to the letter, the new rent is set at N1.2 million, with an additional service charge of N200,000 per annum, effective from the next rent renewal in December 2025.

The letter further stated that tenants unable to afford the new rent would have to vacate the property.

Part of the letter reads: 

“Please note that the rent of the apartment you occupy has been increased to the sum of N1,200.000.00 and service charge N200,000.00 per annum from your next rent renewal on December 2025. “

“Inability to renew the tenancy at the current rate/rent, please vacate the property.”
