The year has kicked off on a good note for Nollywood, especially coming from a previous year of mind blowing, brilliant, and highly successful films and shows. Riding on the back of that success, the year 2023 is starting incredibly, for the fans, for actors as well as the stakeholders in the movie business.

Through all of this, it is important to note the incredible impact of streaming platforms on the Nigerian movie industry, reminding ourselves on how possible the streaming platforms have opened movie producers and actors to a wider range of audience with lesser stress.

On WN Picks this week, we will highlight some of the top Nigerian shows on Showmax this January.

Emmy-nominated performer Yvonne Orji picks up where her debut special left off by returning to the stage to provide her perspective on the pandemic, estate planning, growing up as a child of Nigerian immigrants, and the harsh reality of dating.

The comedy special showcases her range and vulnerability while also acting as a no-holds-barred therapy session for both the performer and the audience. It features a distinctive mash-up of stand-up comedy with scripted vignettes.
