  • Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai visited his ex-Chief of Staff, Bashir Saidu, who faces money laundering charges at the correctional facility
  • El-Rufai’s visit lasted 28 minutes, but he declined to comment to journalists, leaving questions about his stance on Saidu’s case

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday visited the Kaduna State Correctional Service Facility to meet his former Chief of Staff, Bashir Saidu, who is facing charges of money laundering and other alleged offenses.

Saidu was arrested on Monday and later arraigned at the Rigasa Magistrates’ Court, which ordered his remand at the correctional facility.

A Daily Trust correspondent at the scene reported that El-Rufai arrived at the facility at 10:19 a.m., accompanied by three former commissioners. His visit lasted about 28 minutes, as he departed at 10:47 a.m.

The commissioners who joined El-Rufai were Jafaru Sani, former Commissioner of Education; Hafsat Baba, former Commissioner of Human Services and Social Development; and Ibrahim Hussaini, former Commissioner for Environment.

El-Rufai, dressed in a green cap and a light green agbada, declined to speak to journalists following his visit. After exiting the facility, he entered a Prado SUV and left the premises without addressing the media.

Saidu’s arrest and ongoing legal case have drawn significant public attention, though the former governor’s silence leaves questions about his stance.
