  • Everton Football Club appeals against two-point penalty for breaching Premier League financial regulations, aiming for a reduction
  • Initially facing a proposed five-point deduction, Everton’s penalty reduced to two points after considering mitigating factors

Everton Football Club has officially lodged an appeal against the two-point penalty imposed earlier in April for breaching Premier League financial regulations.

The Toffees expressed their intent to appeal on the same day the sanction was announced, and it has now been confirmed that the appeal has been formally submitted.

The club acknowledged breaching the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) by £16.6 million ($207 million) for the assessment period ending with the 2022-23 season.

The independent commission responsible for imposing the penalty revealed in their written decision that the Premier League initially proposed a five-point deduction. However, after considering mitigating factors, including that the club faced dual punishment within the same overlapping period, the commission reduced the penalty to two points.

Earlier in February, Everton successfully appealed a 10-point penalty for a prior PSR breach, which was reduced to six points.

With this latest appeal, Everton aims to reduce the two-point penalty further.

Everton and Nottingham Forest have now lodged appeals against the sanctions imposed on them. The hope is that the outcomes of these appeals will be determined before the final round of Premier League matches on May 19.
